Michael Lee (Mike) Velez, husband of Geramus Diane (Ginny) Corley of the John Calvin Ouzts Line, son of Celia BRACERO and Agustin Velez
Michael “Mike” L. Velez, 57, of Greenwood, husband of Ginny Corley Velez, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on August 2, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was a son of the late Agustin and Celia Bracero Velez. Mike was the proud owner of Carolina Fireside, dedicated to providing exceptional service in the gas log industry. He was a devoted husband, a loving father to his daughters and a doting grandfather, always seeking to create memorable experiences filled with love and laughter and cherishing every moment spent with his family. Mike was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, proudly supporting his team, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and passion that sports can bring. His deep faith as a devout Christian led him to become a cherished member of West Side Baptist Church. There, he shared his love for music by playing the drums in the praise band and was known to be present whenever the doors were open, offering his support to his church.  family.  Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Amber Fuller and Gussie Velez; grandson, Lucas Fuller; sister, Elizabeth Cunningham; brothers, Eddie Velez and Gus Velez; son-in-law, Hamilton Fuller; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Mike’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 2 pm on Thursday at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Richter officiating. Tom P. Cockrell, husband of Rebecca Ann (Becky) Ouzts of the Jacob Ouzts II Line, son of Willie Mae LEOPARD and Tom Cockrell
Tom P. Cockrell, 84, resident of E. Scotch Cross Road, Greenwood, widower of Rebecca Ouzts Cockrell, passed away February 26, 2025, at Hospice of Laurens County. Born June 3, 1940, in Saluda SC, he was a son of the late Tom Cockrell and Willie Mae Leopard Cockrell. He retired from Greenwood Mills having served at nearly every plant at one time. Surviving are a daughter, Lynn Williams (Ricky) of Candler NC; a son, Tim Cockrell, Sr. of Mountville; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a step-daughter, Haley Griffin of Greenwood. He was predeceased by a son, Mike Cockrell; his siblings, Christine Matthews, Sophie McDowell, and O’Neal Cockrell; step-children, Kathy Cromer Williams, and Deborah Joy Johnson; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Cockrell. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home from 12-1 Monday afternoon. Monte Thomas Bledsoe, son of Eva Jewell RODGERS and Joseph Thomas Bledsoe, Jr. of th George Ouzts Line, husband of Maxine PERRY Bledsoe
Johnston SC – Monte Thomas Bledsoe, 79, passed away, March 5, 2025, at his home. Born in Saluda County, a son of the late Joseph Thomas Bledsoe and Eva Jewell Rodgers, he was the husband of the late Maxine Perry Bledsoe. Mr. Bledsoe served in the United States Army and was retired from Greenwood Mills. After retirement he started cattle farming and loved it. He was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are a special companion, Donna Hardy of the home, two sisters, Ruby Keisler of Gilbert and Gloria Whitehead of West Columbia, and various nieces and nephews. Mr. Bledsoe is preceded in death by a son, Michael Scott Bledsoe, and two sisters, Willie Duval and Jewell Stewart. Graveside at Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Ramey Funeral Home, Saluda SC.
Terry Dale Long, son of Hazel NEWTON and James Raymond Long, Sr. of the Peter Ouzts II Line, husband of Yvonne Maxine STOVALL
Terry D. Long, age 79 of Leoma TN passed away Monday, November 11, 2024, at his residence. He was a native of Greenwood SC, retired engineer from Stennis Space Center, former principal in the Picayune School District, and of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Long served his country honorably in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Raymond Long, Sr. and Hazel Newton Long; and one brother, James Raymond Long, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Yvonne Maxine Long of Leoma, TN; one daughter, Jacqueline “Jacqui” Diana Boettcher (Joe) of Hendersonville TN; one granddaughter, Elsa Yvonne Boettcher of Hendersonville, TN; and one niece, Angela G. Long Russell of SC. Those serving as pallbearers are Joe Boettcher, Puddin Ruffin, Eddy Spears, Jr. Littrell, Ray Cobb, Jeremy Cobb, Justin Cobb, and Jimbo Brooks. Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg TN. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Friday, November 15, 2024, at Neal Funeral Home. NINETY SIX SC – Betty Carolyn Smith Sinnott, 88, resident of 2222 Highway 34, Ninety Six, SC, passed away at Self Regional Healthcare on February 21, 2025. Born on September 9, 1936, in Ninety Six, SC she was the daughter of James Claude Smith, Jr. and Agnes Ouzts Smith. She graduated from Ninety Six High School in 1954 and Winthrop University with a BS degree in Home Economics in 1958. She did graduate study at the University of Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her only child, Patrick Sinnott, in 2013 and her sister, Margaret Smith May, in 2023. Surviving are two grandchildren, Schanen Sinnott (Courtney Attaway) of Ninety Six and Ashlen Sinnott (Dennis Tomaso) of Waxhaw, NC; and great-grandson, Barrett Tomaso. Helga Joan FALTENBERGER Crouch, wife of Bobby Eugene (Pop) Crouch of the Jacob Ouzts II Line, daughter of Katharina and Martin Faltenberger
Greenwood SC – Helga J. Faltenberger Crouch, 84, of Greenwood, widow of Bobby Eugene Crouch, passed away February 28, 2025 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1940, in Augsburg, Germany, she was the daughter of late Martin Faltenberger and Katherina Tittel Faltenberger. Helga made the brave journey to the United States in her 20s, with her military husband, Bobby, where they embraced a vibrant life filled with love and laughter. Together, they traveled far and wide, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Helga had a spirited approach to life-she was known for her determination and, at times, her hard-headedness, a quality that endeared her to those who loved her. Helga found great joy in the companionship of her dogs, Stormy, Sadie, and Kiki, who held a special place in her heart. Helga’s life revolved around her family and friends. She was a master in the kitchen, where her famous dishes-like goulash, German potato salad, rouladen, and moose crepes-were expressions of her love. Cooking was her love language, and she shared many delicious meals with everyone she considered family. Helga found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether playing a spirited game of bingo, tending to her beloved flowers, or immersing herself in her garden, every moment was a treasure to her. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mary Pinckney Chapter. She is survived by her sons, Gary H. Crouch (Carolyn) and Wayne O. Crouch (Diane); two grandchildren; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, both in the States and Germany. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Faltenberger, and a sister, Maria Mayer.

Greenwood SC – Linda “Lynn” Jean LaGrone Corley Parnell, 73, resident of Woodhaven Court, widow of John Brooks Parnell, passed away February 25, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare Born May 10, 1951, in Greenwood SC, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Foster “EF” LaGrone, Jr. and Jean Lorraine Ellis LaGrone Baker. She was a 1969 graduate of Greenwood High School and a graduate of Self Memorial Hospital Radiologist Study Program. She retired from Self Regional Medical Center and worked at the Imaging Center for many years. Lynn worked with wonderful friends and was a caretaker for many friends and family.She was of the Baptist faith.Surviving are a brother, Bert LaGrone (Julie) of Banner Elk NC; a brother-in-law, Winston Harrington of Knoxville TN; two sisters-in-law, Alice Parnell Arnold of Greenwood and Frankie Parnell of Greenwood; five nephews, Ben Parnell, Jeff Parnell, David Ray Thompson (Missy), Randy LaGrone (Taylor), Trey Harrington (Carly); two nieces, Julia LaGrone and Leslie Thompson; several great-nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Linda Wade of Greenwood. She was predeceased by a son, Brian Jason Corley; and a sister, Debbie Harrington. At her request no services are planned. Thomas Randall (Randy) Dodgen, son of Evelyn SMITH and Hilton Lafayette Ddgen, husband of Judy Ann SWINK Dodgen
Thomas R. Dodgen “Randy”, 78, resident of Highway 25 South, husband of Judy Dodgen passed away February 25, 2025. Born in Greenwood on May 4, 1946, he was a son of the late Hilton and Evelyn Dodgen. Randy worked at Hi-Do Service Station, started Sundown Cycles, and was the owner and operator of Double D Trucking. Later in life he enjoyed restoring antique toys. Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years are his two children, Shawn (Todd) Timmerman and Thomas R. Dodgen, II “Shane”; one grandson, Thomas Chase Timmerman; two great grandchildren, Austin and Sydney; siblings, Hilty (Kathy) Dodgen, Karen Dodgen Price, and Duck (Mary) Dodgen. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2nd at Rehoboth Church, 1808 Callison Highway. The family will receive friends at the church social hall directly following the service. Harold Sheppard Butler, Jr., son of Mamie Ethel LANIER and Harold Sheppard Butler, Sr. of the Jacob Ouzts II Line, husband of Anne Marjorie (Margie) OUZTS Butler of the Michael Ouzts Line
NINETY SIX – Harold Sheppard Butler, 84, husband of Marjorie Ouzts Butler, passed away February 21, 2025, at Self Regional Medical Center. Harold was born in Edgefield County SC, on May 10, 1940. He was the son of the late Harold (Buddy) Butler and Ethel Lanier Butler. A 1968 graduate of International Correspondence Schools, Harold worked for Greenwood Mills for 40 years, including 3 internationally where his work earned him a feature in the Wall Street Journal. He was a US Army veteran and member of American Legion Post 103. He enjoyed farming and was a member of the Cattleman’s Association as well as the Forestry Associations in both Greenwood and Saluda Counties. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and enjoyed over 50 years of attending football games with family and friends. Harold was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Ninety Six SC where he served as a deacon and in leadership positions on several committees. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie, of the home; his children, Keith (Christie) Butler of Waterloo SC Teresa (Jeff) Richards of Alpharetta GA, and Michael (Paige) Butler of Kernersville NC; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Matt) Guyette, Karen Stillinger, Katelyn Printz, Nathan Richards, Rosario Richards, Eduardo Richards, Eli Butler, and Lily Butler; eight great-grandchildren, Madeline, Philip, Blake, Sarah, Ignacio, Amaya, Jeffrey, and Westley; sister, Becky (J.W.) Timms of Ninety Six SC; and close cousins, Jane Locke (Jack) of Arden NC and Doris (Elwyn) Holmes of Saluda SC. Robert Walter Richardson, husband of Linda Rush RICHARDSON of the Martin Luther Ouzts Line, son of Louise MOORE and Walter Jones Richardson
 Robert Walter Richardson, 85, of Bradley, husband of Linda Rush Richardson, passed away at Greenwood Regional Rehab Hospital. Born on December 19, 1939, in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late Walter Jones Richardson and Louise Moore Richardson. A proud graduate of the Class of 1959 from Greenwood High School, Robert began his career with WC Wall Construction Company, where he enhanced his skills in construction. Later, he became a respected insurance agent, embodying a commitment to excellence during his time with Liberty Life, Life of Georgia, and American General. Robert was well-known for advocating tirelessly for his clients, always prioritizing their best interests and needs. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert was a true jack-of-all-trades. He had a natural gift for fixing anything he set his mind to, from cars to buildings. In a reflection of his self-independent spirit, he even built his own home, showcasing his remarkable talents and determination. Robert was an active member of Bold Spring Baptist Church, where he found community and fellowship among his church members. He was known for his generous soul, always seeking ways to help anyone in need, especially his beloved family. His kindness, warmth, and unwavering support will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Linda Richardson of the home; children, Roy Walter Richardson (Donna Marie) and Felicia Richardson Ellison (Perry), both of Greenwood; grandchildren, Ryan Walter Richardson, Zander Richardson, Franklin Ellison, Meghan Richardson, and Alyssa Richardson; and great granddaughter, Phoebe Isabella Lee. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Bold Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. David Turner and Rev. David Little officiating. Greenwood SC – Janice Diane Jackson, 75, died Monday, February 10, 2025. Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Herman Evans and Thelma Hazel Pearson Ouzts. Janice attended Lander College and received her Master’s degree in Botany from the University of South Carolina. She taught biology at Piedmont Technical College’s Nursing program. She attended Emerald Baptist Church. Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Woodrow Jackson, who died on January 14, 2025. Marvin was the son of the late James and Mildred Harmon and is survived by a brother, Jimmy Owensby (Norma Jean) and was preceded in death by his sister, Kaye “Cookie” Harmon Ferqueron. Janice was also preceded in death by her nephew, Jay Davis. Janice and Marvin are survived by their son, Daniel Jackson (Brooke) and grandchildren, Levi and Josephine Jackson. Janice is also survived by her sister, Shirlyne Tiller (Randy) and great niece and nephews, Alan Davis, Amber Davis, Cade Davis, Ethan Tellock, and Kailyne Tellock. A service to celebrate the lives of Janice and Marvin will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Emerald Baptist Church with Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Thelma Charlotte KING Koone, daughter of Sarah Helen RUSH and Clyde Eugene King of the Martin Luther Ouzts Line, Widow of Ervin Lee Koone
Charlotte King Koone, 89, resident of Emerald Gardens and former resident of Heritage West, widow of Ervin Lee Koone, died February 7, 2025. Born in Buncombe County NC, June 27, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Eugene and Helen Rush King. She was a graduate of Biltmore High School and St. Genevieve of the Pines, both in Asheville NC. Mrs. Koone was one of the original organizers of the Greenwood High Band Booster Club, she was a 25 year volunteer and former chair person for the Greenwood Heart Fund and a volunteer for The American Cancer Society. She served on the United Methodist State Board of Health, Education and Welfare as well as the Board of United Way of Greenwood and worked with area children in the HOSTS Program. A member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the Charles Poore Sunday School Class and former member of the Chancel Choir of the church. She served for many years on the St. Mark Church Council as well as holding many other offices within the church. Mrs. Koone assisted with the Kids World Program and other children’s programs of the church. She was a member of the Caladium Garden Club and a former member of the Greenwood Woman’s Club in which she held several offices. Mrs. Koone was secretary to the late Douglas Featherstone Esquire and she also held several positions with Greenwood School District 50. Her most rewarding work has been assisting with the children at Merrywood Elementary School. Surviving are a son, Pat (Gina) Koone of Greenwood and a daughter-in-law, Linda Koone of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Matthew Koone, Laura Koone, both of Greenwood, Patrick (Shelby) Koone of Lexington SC and Brad Koone of Charlotte NC; a great-granddaughter, Sophie Koone; a sister, Gloria K. (Harry) Allison of New Port Richey FL; a niece, Sara (Daryl) Freeman and a nephew, Martin (Jennifer) Allison. She is also survived by her cousin Benzie Witt and special friends, Martha Bagwell, and Diana Carver. Mrs. Koone was predeceased by her son, Mike Koone. Funeral services at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel. N Augusta SC – Mr. Jeremey Chadwick “Chad” Franklin, 46, of North Augusta SC, husband of Jennifer Dawn Smith Franklin, entered into rest on January 31, 2025. A lifelong area resident and a graduate of Aiken High School, he was the son of Charles and Deborah Loyd Franklin. Marco’s Pizza currently employed him. Chad used to be a DAWG fan but later became a Gamecock supporter. He loved spending time outdoors and was passionate about crafting, landscaping, woodworking, and NASCAR. He was the biggest fan of Jimmie Johnson. In addition to his wife and parents, Chad is survived by his children, Andrea (Kyler Hanley) Heath, Olivia Franklin, Broxton Franklin, Spencer Franklin, Jamie Renee Elliott, and Micah Raylan Franklin, a sister, Cori Brown, grandmother, Margie Franklin, nephew, Ty Gregg, niece, Andi Gregg, as well as several other relatives and friends. Friends will be greeted by the family on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 2 o’clock at the Living Hope Fellowship, Aiken SC. Harold Edward Doolittle, 86, of Greenwood, husband of Alice Shepard Doolittle, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at his home. Born in South Carolina, he was the son of the late Edward Doolittle and Cleo Stewart Whitt. Harold retired from Greenwood Mills after working 40 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. His strong work ethic and commitment to his job reflected the values he instilled in his family. He was a proud and loving husband for 44 cherished years, and together they raised a family that brought him immense joy. An avid fan of sports, Harold had a special love for the Atlanta Braves and the Clemson Tigers. His enthusiasm for competition extended beyond the field and into the great outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting and gardening, particularly growing tomatoes. He found happiness in the little things, whether spending time breeding his beagles or cheering on his grandchildren in their various endeavors. He was a member of Mathews United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Freida Johnson and a sister, Joann Doolittle Proctor. Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of the home are his children, Robyn Jones (Randy), Kip Doolittle, Kim Calliham, Kirk Doolittle, Karla Phillips and Sheila Reid; grandchildren, Jessica Thomas (Bud), Jacob Johnson (Pami), Allison Johnson, Joshua Jones (Karla), Jeremy Jones, Rebecca Phillips, Lindsay Doolittle, Leslie Doolittle and Kayla Stanley (Joe); and ten great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11am on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eunice Elizabeth OUZTS Horne, daughter of Nella Taft DORN and Franklin Pierce Ouzts of the Peter Ouzts II Line, widow of Paul Edward Horne, Sr.
 Greenwood SC – Eunice Elizabeth Ouzts Horne, 90, of Parker Avenue, widow of Paul Edward Horne, Sr. died January 22, 2025 at her home. Born in Edgefield SC, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Pierce and Nella Taft Dorn Ouzts. A member of Eastside Baptist Church, she was a beloved housewife who loved to cook and garden. Surviving are three sons Ed Horne, Jr. (Josie), Frank Horne, and Scot Horne (Ashley) all of Greenwood, two daughters Kathy Horne Bryan of Greenwood and Tonya Horne Long of Florence, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Chester Pierce Ouzts, George Dorn, and Buddy Dorn, and two sisters, Myrlon Smith and Linda Kirkland. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. The family will be at their respective homes. Myra Louise WELLS Hancock Harvley, daughter of Helen Ida WOOD and Nicholas (Tom) Wells, Sr., of the George Ouzts Line, widow of (1) Rev. Carroll Eugene Hancock and (2) Wilbur Ray Harvley
Myra Wells Hancock,92, of 129 Saluda Street, Ninety Six, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at her home. Born in Greenwood, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Wood Wells. She was the daughter in law to the late J.C. and Minnie Barnes Hancock. Myra graduated from Greenwood High School in 1950 and was a member of Ninety Six Church of God. She was twice married, first to the late Rev. C. Eugene Hancock, who served as Church of God pastor for 42 years. Married for 60 years, they served a number of churches throughout South Carolina. After Reverend Hancock’s passing, she married the late Wilbur Ray Harvley. Myra worked as a caregiver and retired from Home Health Care. Surviving is her son, Donald Hancock and his wife, Patsy, of Six Mile; two daughters, Avis Scruggs and her husband, Terry, of Rock Hill, and Karen Howard and her husband, Rick, of Chester; stepdaughter, Vickie McFarland and stepson, Randy Harvley, both of Ninety Six; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Philip Hancock; grandson, Jonathan Hancock; a brother, Thomas N. Wells and his wife, Janice Wells; and a sister, June Lowery-Turner. Services will be held at 2pm Saturday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.

 Fred Harold McDowell, 75, resident of Longneedle Court, husband of Betsy M. Barnes-McDowell, passed away January 9, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare. Born October 4, 1949, in Greenwood SC, he was a son of the late James O. and Kathleen Hipp McDowell. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended University of South Carolina. Fred retired from Ed Pulliam Trucking Company; after his trucking career, Fred was a local auctioneer. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Jamie McDowell and wife Robyn of Seneca; two sisters, Ann McFerrin of Seneca and Jean Langrehr of Greenwood; a step-son, Scott Barnes and wife Robyn and their children, Brianna Collins, Hunter Barnes, and Addison Barnes Crystal of McCormick.
